Neurology Residency Training Program

The Department of Neurology at the University of Michigan offers professional training in neurology with a carefully developed residency program. Each year, the department accepts five or six new adult neurology residents, for a total of 17 residents in the three-year program. Up to three Pediatric Neurology fellows also participate in the educational program.

Clinical Training

Training in clinical neurology is based primarily at the University of Michigan Hospitals, and to a lesser degree at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Ann Arbor. Each resident's clinical experience is supplemented with formal instruction in clinical neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, genetics, and several areas of neuroscience, including neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, neurophysiology, neuropathology and neuropharmacology. Neurology residents at the University of Michigan find that their experience in this program fosters intellectual curiosity that leads to continuing self-education for the remainder of their professional careers.
