I came to Michigan because I really liked the people I met when I interviewed here and because I had heard wonderful things about the quality of clinical instruction at Michigan. I am also very interested in Sleep Medicine, a field in which Michigan is unsurpassed. Having been here for a year, I can say that your first year always will be busy and at times will be very satisfying. You will not be horribly sleep-deprived, however, because our night-float system has truly eliminated 30-hour shifts. The attendings take their evaluation and teaching responsibilities quite seriously.
Ann Arbor has been a wonderful place to spend time. If you've been living in a big city, say, one that rhymes with "Illadelphia," you might miss such things as Dim Sum, and places open past midnight that don't serve pizza or "Hippie Hash," but you'll find lots of hippies, cheap/free music and art, and great food.
