Comprehensive Epilepsy Program
Epilepsy is a common condition that causes repeated seizures. The seizures are caused by bursts of electrical activity in the brain that are not normal. Seizures may cause problems with muscle control, movement, speech, vision, or awareness. They usually don't last very long, but they can be scary. The good news is that treatment of epilepsy usually works to control and reduce seizures.
The U-M Department of Neurology Epilepsy Program provides comprehensive clinical services to patients with epilepsy and other seizure disorders.
Outpatient medical care is provided in the Adult Epilepsy Clinic, where patients receive expert neurological evaluations to confirm the diagnosis, classify the seizures, and identify the medical, psychological and social complications of the seizure disorder. We create a diagnostic and treatment plan for each individual patient. Patients and their families may receive counseling and education services by the Epilepsy clinical nurse specialists or a medical social worker.
