The University of Michigan Multiple Sclerosis Center is actively involved in research aiming to slow the course of disease using "disease-modifying" therapies, as well as studies focused on improving symptoms secondary to MS. In some cases, our studies collaborate with other MS Centers in the US and abroad.
Research interests unique to the University of Michigan include the development of diagnostic testing (experimental blood tests). It is hoped that these studies may shed light on the cause of MS, may simplify diagnosis and may ultimately lead to new treatment strategies. These blood tests are highly experimental at this time. Another special research interest is the use of a cooling device to improve heat-sensitive symptoms.
