Dr. Gilman's research interests include positron emission tomography (PET) studies of neurotransmitters and neurotransmitter receptors in the neurodegenerative disorders, including dominantly inherited and sporadic cerebellar degenerations, Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, dementia with Lewy bodies, progressive supranuclear palsy, and Alzheimer's disease, with a current focus upon disorders of cardiac innervation, sleep disturbances, biomarkers, and therapeutic trials of immunotherapy in Alzheimer's disease.
