University of Michigan Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program Overview

Welcome to the University of Michigan Sleep Medicine Fellowship page! On this site, you will find descriptions of our program, fellows, and faculty. We believe that the training you receive here is amongst the best in the country. Our fellowship offers a rich multidisciplinary clinical experience with a broad diversity of patients, extensive experience in the sleep clinics and laboratories, and opportunities to explore a large variety of research possibilities.

Mission Statement

To train outstanding physicians from diverse backgrounds to provide exceptional patient care for any sleep or alertness problem, and serve as future leaders in sleep medicine clinical practice, research, education, or advocacy.

Founded by Michael S. Aldrich, MD, a pioneer in sleep medicine, this highly multidisciplinary fellowship enrolls 7 full-time sleep medicine fellows each year. The program has trained physicians who have gone on to academic positions and others who have gone on to private practice settings. Information on both the clinical and academic sleep medicine fellowship tracks is provided on this site.

The University of Michigan Health System encompasses a network of hospitals and physicians through much of South-Eastern Michigan. The University of Michigan Hospital is a tertiary care center with a high volume of adult and pediatric outpatient services. The Ann Arbor Veterans Affairs Medical Center also has an active sleep medicine program. These settings provide outstanding opportunities for sleep medicine fellows to learn from colleagues with different specialty backgrounds.

Ann Arbor is a great place to live, and offers something for every interest. The University of Michigan campus is rich with energy and tradition, including sporting events, lectures, concerts, and exhibits. Downtown Ann Arbor is home to a multitude of restaurants, shops, fairs and festivals. The surrounding landscape provides ample opportunity for running, biking, kayaking, swimming, skiing and other adventures for the outdoor enthusiast.
