"When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot manifest, strength cannot fight, wealth becomes useless, and intelligence cannot be applied." -- Herophilus

Mission Statement

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential, no cost service for UMHS Faculty, Staff, and their families. Our goal is to inspire ongoing individual and organizational development, while contributing to the health and well-being of the Health System community. We do this by providing brief counseling and coaching services, mediation services, crisis intervention, assessment and referral, educational and training programs, and supervisory, staff, and team consultation.

Core Beliefs and Values

We believe that:

  • Caring for our employees supports our efforts to put patients and families first
  • No one person, in this stressful age, can long maintain a high level of functioning without the assistance of others
  • Employees benefit when they are afforded the opportunity to talk about their problems in a confidential place, safe from judgment
  • Work and personal relationships flourish when individuals can engage in sincere efforts to problem solve
  • People feel validated and esteemed when listened to and understood
  • Intervention at a group level can build connection, create community, and remove the obstacles that might prevent a group from flourishing
