Workshops
The Program for Multicultural Health presents workshops on a variety of multicultural health topics. We tailor content and length to meet the organization’s cultural background and/or educational needs. Sample topics:

Advocacy Tools to Improve the Health of Multicultural Groups
Achieving good health does not depend on access to health care services alone, but also the social and cultural environments that affect health care services. This workshop provides tips for becoming a health advocate. Strategies are discussed regarding steps to change the environment that can improve the health of multicultural groups.

A Cultural Approach to Weight Management
Provides participants with information on the history and relationship within various cultural groups, weight management challenges among specific groups and strategies to overcome these challenges

Cultural/Religious Influences on Stress Management
Introduces the various methods used to cope with stress

Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) Standards in Health Care
Provides an overview of the 14 national CLAS standards. We can tailor the workshop to include how CLAS standards are cross-walked with JCAHO standards and/or how to conduct an organizational assessment using the CLAS standards.

Culture and Food
Introduces participants to foods from various cultures and their health benefits

Health Disparities: What are they and why do they Exist?
An overview and history of health disparities among multicultural groups and the strategies used to improve the health of multicultural groups

Introduction to Cultural Competency
Provides an introduction to cultural competency, why it is important in health care and how to implement cultural competency into service. Outcomes include enhanced awareness, knowledge and skills in providing culturally appropriate health care.

Physical Activity among Diverse Cultural Groups
Introduces participants to different forms of physical activity among diverse cultural groups, barriers to engagement and possible solutions

Tobacco Use and Prevention in the African American Population
Provides an overview of tobacco use within the African American population, challenges that have impeded tobacco-use reduction efforts and current strategies to reduce tobacco use
