Community Health Promotion

Purpose

The purpose of the Community Health Promotion Division (CHPD) is to develop and implement theory-driven, community-based initiatives aimed at improving the health of underserved multicultural populations.  The CHPD division is guided by three goals: (1) to develop and implement culturally appropriate health promotion research programs, (2) to collaborate with organizations to develop or enhance health programs for multicultural populations, and (3) to advocate for policies that improve the health of multicultural populations.

The Role of CHPD

The role of the division is to assist the Program for Multicultural Health (PMCH) and complement the work of the University of Michigan Health System's strategic goals of improving community health in collaboration with community partners through health awareness and disease prevention programs.

The CHPD develops programs to (1) increase healthier behaviors, and (2) improve environments in which our culturally diverse communities live.  In addition to providing services to improve health, our programs aim to build and strengthen relationships between the UMHS and multicultural communities.
