The Mott Golf Classic is built on the foundation of what began in 1973 as a small golf outing organized by a group Washtenaw County Life Underwriters who wanted to do something to benefit the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. Today, the Classic is one of Michigan's most successful and longest-running charitable golf outings, attracting more than 400 participants each year and netting more than $400,000 in 2008.
In its original form, this event was made possible by individuals who shared a passion for golf and a desire to help sick children. Today, national and international businesses and organizations sponsor the Classic and, in doing so, provide their employees and business partners with the unique opportunity to play golf on one of Ann Arbor's three championship courses while raising money to support and enhance the overall health care experience for Mott patients and their families.
Over the years, local celebrities such as Jim Brandstatter, Lloyd Carr, Lance Parrish, Bo Schembechler and Frank Beckmann have lent their talents - either on the course as participants or on the mic as event emcees - to drive the Classic's success and add local flavor to the event.
This extensive support from Michigan and beyond, in combination with Mott Hospital's reputation as one of the nation's leading pediatric health care institutions, ensures that the Mott Golf Classic will continue to grow and succeed in putting Mott patients and families first. |
