Helping kids is what the Mott Golf Classic truly is all about. The money raised through this annual event supports and enhances various programs at Mott designed to make the hospital stay as easy and enjoyable as possible for patients and their families. This page highlights some of the major accomplishments made possible by Classic funding.
Mott Family Network
The Mott Family Network provides a computer at every Mott Hosptial bedside. The project was made possible with funding from the annual Mott Golf Classic, as well as several charitable donations from computer corporations for maintenance support, software and hardware. Additionally, nearly 70 U-M employees from across the university and medical center volunteered hundreds of off-shift hours to design, wire, build and install the computers.
Thanks to this program, the first of its kind to be offered at a children's hospital in the Midwest, patients and their families have access to a computer network at no cost, and the user name and password protected system is set up to provide young patients with secure and controlled access to online materials, based on parent or guardian request. Mott patients can access the Internet, send and receive e-mail, play DVD movies and games, and use educational programs and software to keep up with school work without leaving their hospital beds. Parents, caregivers and visitors can use the network to e-mail friends and family members, research a medical condition, keep up with local and world news, pay bills online, etc. In addition, the computers are equipped with headphones to allow minimal disruption to patient care, and the keyboard, mouse and joystick are all set up on a moveable bedside table.
We are very proud of our Mott Family Network and we wish to thank the many, many supporters who have made this possible for the kids and families at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.
