Charles Woodson, whose passion for football led him to the 1997 Heisman Trophy and to a successful career in the NFL, is now making his passion for children public.

On Thanksgiving Day, he made a gift of $2 million to the new University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Women's Hospital and to help create the Charles Woodson Clinical Research Fund.

The fund will provide money for research to advance the treatment of illnesses that affect children including but not limited to cancer, congenital heart disease, sickle cell and kidney disorders, and developmental conditions like autism.

The gift will also support the construction of the new U-M C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Women’s Hospital. The lobby of the children's portion of the hospital will be named in Woodson's honor.

The Woodson Fund seeks to support physician-scientists and research investigators whose work is in its earliest stages of development when ideas have the greatest potential for impact and innovation.

Woodson, currently in his 12th season in the NFL and fourth with the Green Bay Packers, says he wants to jump-start these ideas and ensure that new approaches that have great potential for cures and to improve the lives of children are not lost in the earliest stages of development.

Woodson and the whole University of Michigan Health System community ask that you help realize his dream to help cure and treat life-altering childhood diseases.
