The Brian Griese/Steve Hutchinson Champions for Children’s Hearts Celebrity Golf Tournament
On May 17–18, hundreds of celebrity athletes, sponsors and Michigan fans teamed up for Mott at the 2nd annual Brian Griese/Steve Hutchinson Champions for Children’s Hearts Celebrity Golf Tournament. A gala dinner at Crisler Arena kicked off the weekend festivities, culminating with the auction of a child’s playhouse constructed by local builders. Unlike a typical auction, 67 members of the audience contributed $1,000 each to donate the house to the children and families at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. In return, each had the chance to catch a football from 1997 National Championship quarterback, Brian Griese. The following day, the charity golfers gathered at the University of Michigan course to golf for kids. Thanks to the incredible generosity of these participants, the event raised more than $400,000 for the new hospital and Congenital Heart Center.
The 2009 Griese/Hutchinson event will be held Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17. For more information contact Anne Berlucchi at 734-998-8822 or by email.

On June 13, the University of Michigan football team took over Ann Arbor Radio’s four stations—Sports Talk 1050 WTKA (1050 AM), W4 Country (102.9 FM), 107one (107.1 FM), and WLBY Ann Arbor’s Progressive Talk Radio (1290 AM)—to benefit U-M C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital. More than $100,000 was raised for the children’s and women’s hospitals.
As part of the 12-hour radio-a-thon event, head football coach Rich Rodriguez, along with other Michigan coaches, players and former players, spoke on air about Michigan football, and helped raise awareness for the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital building project and fundraising campaign. Patients, families and medical experts were also featured during the radio-a-thon. |
