C. S. Mott Children's Hospital
Fun Stuff to Do
Guess what? There are all kinds of fun things to do when you come to the hospital for appointment during the day, and when you stay in the hospital overnight.... Here, let me show you.
Clinic Waiting Room
Lots of times when you come to see the doctor in the clinic, you have to do some waiting. But don’t worry, waiting can be fun! There are fun activities in the waiting area that are there to help make your wait time go faster. There is a person called a Child Life specialist whose job is to do cool things with kids. If you’re bored she has toys, games, books and crafts that you can do. She also has neat medical equipment that you can use to help you understand what things the nurses, doctors and techs will do with you. If you have a question about what is going on, she is a good person to ask.
The Giving Library
When you're waiting in the clinic to see your doctor, there is this cool cart with books on it called the Giving Library. You can pick a book to read while you wait and when you're done you get to take it home with you! Pretty neat huh?
When you stay overnight in the hospital there is another kind of Giving Library. People called volunteers bring this cart full of books around to your hospital room. You get to pick a brand new book off this cart and sometimes the volunteer will even read it to you. When you go home from the hospital, you get to take this book with you, too! WOW! I bet you never thought you'd get so many cool things while you were in the hospital.
Playroom
When you stay overnight in the hospital, you can spend time in the 5th floor playroom. Arts and crafts, toys, board games and computer activities are just a few of the fun things to do there. It's great because you get to choose. It’s up to you to decide what to do while you’re there, and if you have a hard time deciding, there is always someone from Child and Family Life close by to help.
One of the best things about the playroom is that it is an "Ouch Free room." That means that no one can give you pokes, icky medicine or do any of those other not-so-fun things while you are in there.
