Program and Services: Family Resource Center
We believe no one knows a child the way their family does, and no one is a better advocate for that child than their family. It is this family-centered care philosophy upon which the Family Resource Center is built.
Designed by families and health care professionals, the Resource Center is dedicated to meeting a family’s special needs in a comfortable and relaxing environment. Staff and volunteers offer accurate and timely information, education and support, and foster a cooperative relationship between a family and their health care team. Families benefit whether a child is staying at Mott Children’s Hospital, preparing to go home or being seen at an outpatient clinic. The Resource Center’s services and programs offer additional opportunities for families to learn to care for their child as well as other family members and themselves. In addition it offers families an ability to communicate with a multidisciplinary staff and others outside the hospital, and to face the future with confidence.
The Family Resource Center is located on the 8th floor of U-M C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Hours of Operation: Monday – Wednesday 9a.m. – 7p.m. Thursday – Friday 9a.m. – 4:30p.m. Saturday 9a.m. – 7p.m. Sunday 12p.m. – 5p.m. For more information, call 734-763-3656 or e-mail Family-Resource-Center@med.umich.edu.
The Family Resource Center offers:
- A comfortable environment where a family can take a break, think and relax
- A consultation room for private conversations and meetings
- A place for a family to gather together or to meet other families
- Books and magazines for adults, teens and children
- Educational materials, pamphlets and audio/visual recordings
- Internet access and computer-assisted instruction
- Knowledgeable staff and volunteers to answer questions and lend support
- Scheduled and specially arranged classes
- Special events
Mott Playdeck
The 8th floor of Mott houses an outdoor rooftop playground that is open seasonally for patients and families. With a bird’s eye view of the surrounding University of Michigan campus and the new Children’s & Women’s construction site, the Playdeck is not only a fun place for patients and families to escape from their hospital rooms, but is also a place to relax and get some fresh air. The Playdeck is available to families seven days a week during hours when the Family Resource Center is open and staffed. Parents and/or guardians must remain with children at all times.
