What is the Mott Family Network Patient Account System?
The account system was developed to provide Mott staff (Admissions, Child Life, and Unit Clerks) the ability to create accounts that can be used to access the Mott Family Network computers.
Why does a person need an account to use the Mott Family Network computers?
By requiring accounts, access will be restricted to only the users for which the Mott Family Network was intended. This also provides parents and guardians the ability to decide if they want their child to have access to the workstations. If a patient abuses their privileges, staff will be able to disable the account and deny access. Additionally, hospital policy requires that we take every precaution to protect the patients, patient information, and the University of Michigan Health System.
Who can have an account?
Any patient of C. S. Mott’s Children’s Hospital that has permission from their parent or guardian may have an account.
May the patient’s siblings, friends or parents use the computers?
At this time, the Mott Family Network workstations are for patients only. However, we understand families and guests would like Internet access while visiting the patients. So, we have setup an additional network jack at each location intended for use by families and guests with their personal laptops.
How can the patient receive an account?
Accounts can be setup at admission. Unit Clerks, Float Clerks, and the Child Life staff of the activity and class rooms are also trained in creating accounts. A parent or guardian must sign an authorization form that will be provided by the staff person creating the account. Once authorized, the account will be created and a print out provided to the patient with the account name and password. The account names and passwords are randomly generated to ensure that, if lost, no patient identifiable information is exposed.
The patient has an account but lost their password, what can I do?
Speak with your unit clerk. Provide the patient’s name and or CPI number. They will reset the password. A new print out will be generated with the patient’s original account name and a new password.
How do I disable the patient’s privileges?
If there is cause to disable the account, speak with your unit clerk. They will require the patient’s name and or CPI number. The account can also be re-enabled when deemed appropriate. |
