The following are recommendations for Infection Control:
The following are recommendations for workstations in patient care areas from Kristen VanDerElzen of Infection Control. The recommendations relate to hardware used, cleaning, and maintenance. These workstations, while helpful and entertaining, offer yet another opportunity for our patient population to be exposed to infection. The effort to develop workstations for use by the children in C. S. Mott hospital offers MCIT an opportunity to do our part in improving patient care.
Workstation Use
-
Workstations should not be shared by patients and staff
-
Preferably workstations should not be used among family members, but it is understood this may not be manageable
Hardware
-
Keyboard covers that can be disinfected
-
Surfaces not made of latex (hospital trying to go latex free)
-
Reduce exposure to shared media (such as game CDs)
-
Monitor surfaces that can be disinfected, preferably with standard Environmental Services cleansers (current product is called VIREX)
Support
-
Support should not occur on site - workstations collect dirt and dust
-
Workstations should not be turned on and off frequently, as this can disturb the dirt and dust inside.
