What is the Mott Family Network Patient Account System?
The account system was developed to provide Mott staff (Admissions, Child Life, and Unit Clerks) the ability to create accounts that can be used to access the Mott Family Network computers. |
How is this different from our UMHS accounts?
The Mott Family Network accounts are for access to the Mott Family Network. This is a separate directory identical to the UMHS directory but intended only for patient use. This allows Medical Center Information Technology (MCIT) to leverage our experience providing a directory infrastructure for UMHS to create an environment for the patients using existing software. |
How does the Mott Family Network Patient Account System work?
A unit clerk, Admissions or Child Life staff person submits a request via the Patient Management (PM) system to create an account. The request is then forwarded on to program that has been setup to monitor these requests. When it receives a request, it is processed and the account is created. The account name and password are randomly generated using list of simple words provided by C. S. Mott Hospital. Once the account is created, a notification is sent to whatever printer was identified by the person submitting the request. No printer ID… No print out! Generally, this process should not take more than a few seconds. |
How is the request to change the password processed?
In much the same way as the account. The request is received by the monitoring application. In this case, it is identified that an account already exists so it simply changes the password. Once completed, this is sent back to the printer identified by the person who submitted the request. No printer ID… No print out! |
What happens when the patient is discharged?
When a patient is discharged a notification is automatically generated which is circulated to all related applications. In this case, the monitor program will be alerted and will have the account suspended. If the patient returns, the account can be ‘re-activated’ by password change request. |
What if the patient never visits again?
The account is automatically deleted after one year of suspension. If a patient returns after that time, a new account can be created. |
