Welcome to the Michigan Metabolomics and Obesity Center
The Michigan Metabolomic and Obesity Center (MMOC) was recently awarded a Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) grant by the National Institute of Health (NIH)
The goal of the NORC is to support infrastructure to encourage and enable researchers from preclinical, clinical and translational and population-based disciplines to integrate the newest tools in molecular and cellular biology, neurobehavior and computational biology into their studies related to metabolic health.
The Center is a cross-campus effort in which faculty from the Medical School, the School of Public Health and the School of Kinesiology support a range of services for researchers to define individual and
population characteristics that arise in response to dietary nutrient composition or amount. The MNORC will be lead by Charles Burant, MD, PhD, Professor of Internal Medicine who will serve as Director and Karen E. Peterson, ScD, Professor of Environmental Health Sciences and Director, Human Nutrition Program, School of Public Health who will be NORC Co-director.
The NORC is the only new center funded by the NIH in the latest round of funding and grew out of the Michigan Metabolomics and Obesity Center. The latter was created in 2006 to provide Core support for obesity research and to accelerate the development of the metabolomics as 'omics' technology for the Medical School.
Please remember to Cite the Grant
DK 089503
It is extremely important that our grant is cited in all publications resulting from the use of NORC services. Our productivity and effectiveness as a Center is measured in part by the citation of the grant in published work.
