Multiscale Cell Mechanics
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Michigan Medical School invites applications for a tenure-track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position. We are seeking outstanding scholars with a doctoral degree (Ph.D., and/or M.D.) and relevant postdoctoral experience, who show exceptional research potential in areas including, but not limited to, biophysical approaches to understanding viral, bacterial, fungal or parasite biology, host-pathogen interactions or the immune system. This is one of five positions at the University to be hired as an Interdisciplinary Junior Faculty Cluster titled Multiscale Cell Mechanics, which will focus on understanding, comprehensively and quantitatively, how cells function at the molecular level and how molecular actions determine cell and tissue behavior.
The successful candidate will develop collaborative interactions with colleagues in the College of Engineering and the Medical School and will contribute to the formation and success of an interdisciplinary research consortium. New faculty will be expected to develop an independent research program that will address fundamental issues in quantitative approaches to host-pathogen interactions or immunology, and to participate in departmental training activities.
Applicants should submit application materials to Sheryl Hansen Smith at sherylhs@umich.edu by including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three reprints, and a statement of research plans. Additionally, please arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to the same e-mail address. Applications should be received by November 1, 2009.
