MGPRC Annual Retreat
Saturday, January 28, 2012
On the heels of our successful and popular meeting this past
January, the Michigan Gastrointestinal Peptide Research Center
once again invites you to participate in its annual retreat
on the 4th floor in the Palmer Commons facility, which is
located on the University of Michigan central campus on Palmer
Drive Development at 100 Washtenaw Avenue, on Saturday, January
28, 2012 from 8:00-1:30 p.m.
Our distinguished guest speaker will be Jerrold Turner, M.D., Ph.D., Professor and Associate Chair, Department of Pathology at the University of Chicago. Dr. Turner’s presentation is entitled, “Regulation of mucosal barrier function: A “complex” problem.”
Additionally, this year we will feature oral presentations from a few other distinguished internal speakers and present or past pilot project investigators. Presenting this year are: Jason R. Spence, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology. "Translating embryonic development into models of human GI development and disease"; Eric C. Martens, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology & Immunology, "Degradation of dietary and mucosal polysaccharides by commensal human gut bacteria"; and Elizabeth K. Speliotes, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., Assistant Professor, Department of Internal Medicine and Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics, Division of Gastroenterology “Genetic studies on human obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease”
All currently funded Peptide Center pilot project
investigators are required to present a poster at this meeting.
If you are not funded through the Center but have a research
poster that you would like to present at the retreat you are
kindly encouraged and gratefully welcomed to do so. Last year
we had over 40 excellent poster presentations and we have
room for a lot more.
If you would like to present a poster at this
year's retreat, please notify Pam Varga by email (pglazer@umich.edu)
on or before January 16, 2012. It would be helpful if you had the
title of your poster at that time.
Further details of the 2012 retreat will be forthcoming in email communications to our membership.
