Healthy Lifestyle Adventure
See how Tristen is doing this week!
Week 10
I put in a lot of miles and isometric exercises at Cedar Point this weekend. Its great to scream and laugh. I also
met with Jessica S. for the last time. She really kicked my butt but in a good way. She also gave me some new exercises.
I really loved the Russian twists, 100's and Bosu side twists. It was funny trying to stay on the Bosu since I havent
been on it before. I am going to miss her and the Ice Cube. I am joining a gym tonight. I cant wait. Im ready to try
their cross-training machine.
Week 9
This week has been good with the weather and I have finally gotten back outside. Enjoyed Gallup Park and walks with my
family. Less stress at work, unpacking has been a breeze and I met with Jess. She is always able to teach me new things
and to motivate me. Even though I am out of shape she always makes me feel so comfortable. She takes the time to
create/write out new exercises for me. She also gives me exercises that I can do at home. Bonus! There were a lot of
older adults there on Tuesday night and they put me to shame. This older woman was lifting 25 lb dumbbells, wow. That
was a major reality check for me. Its also vital for me to think about my sister's breast cancer and the importance of
staying in shape.
Week 8
My last 2 weeks were filled with packing, moving and a very important work review. Needless to say my whole body got a
major work-out daily. I was lifting alot of heavy boxes plus going up and down stairs. I didn't go to the gym or to the
Metro park once. I also wasn't able to meet with Jess. Not good! We had a major review at work so I was super busy and
stressed. The weather was iffy a lot with the rain and heat so this didn't help things. Obviously, my exercise regimen
was on hold due to my move and work which frustrated me. Even though I was exercising and continually moving, it didn't
feel quite the same.
Week 7
Its been nice getting outside to walk, run and roller blade. I have been going to the Metro Park for an hour 5 days
a week. The sunshine and fresh air rocks. I would like to add jump roping and a weighted hula hoop to my routine. My
health and fitness specialist, Jess, is awesome and she really has taught me a lot about exercise plus challenged me in
my workouts.
I have been working on my breathing and writing in a journal to help relieve stress. The stress management class has
helped me to take the time to write down my feelings, deal with circumstances and situations, and realize that some
things are out of my control.
I also feel better when I eat healthy. I have changed from 1% to fat free organic milk. I have also stopped drinking
a cup of coffee daily for it was added calories with the cream and sugar. I have added more fruits into my daily plan
and taken the time to pack a lunch. I have enjoyed a lot of granny smith apples and strawberries. This has helped a
lot with getting my proper food groups in and not grabbing junk on the go.
Week 6
I slacked quite a bit with the changing weather. I didnt make it to the park as I usually do which took a toll. I
could feel the difference in just a few days. I ate more and became lazy.
I had to step it up though when I met with Jessica. She and I worked on specific groups and changed the routine. It
was fun and I learned quite a bit. It does help to have someone knowledgeable helping. I am still taking the stairs
more and walking to my car. I don't think I have been hitting my 15,000 daily steps. I need to work on this more.
Week 5
This weather has really helped me to switch up my exercise regimen. I have loved going outside. I have been going to
the park to run, walk, roller blade and to play boom ball. I've been sore but its worth it.
The results are slowly but surely. I feel better and I have been sleeping like a baby. I went to my first Stress
Management class and it was interesting. I am now trying to breathe diaphragmatically now. I look forward to this class
tonight.
Week 4
As the weather improved and it has been lighter outside my motivation increased. I got outside a few days during and
after work. I met with Jessica S. from M-Fit and did she ever push me. She showed me many new exercises and challenged
me even more. I have been able to incorporate the things Wendy taught me and combine it with Jessica's. Its also been
great walking, running and rollerblading at the park.
Week 3
My exercising was going well. I got the cold/flu virus and I didn't work out for 4 days. Some days are better than
others. I did slack a few times but I tried hard to fit it into my daily schedule. I wasn't as sore as time progressed
and I can run longer. I met with Cathy from MFit for my nutrition consultation. She was very nice and insightful. It
was interesting when she pointed out some of my unhealthy habits or ones that weren't so bad but could be improved
upon. She then helped guide me in the right direction. Talk about preparation for lunch.
Week 2
Well, week 2 has come in like a lion. My body is hurting and really putting up a fight. Aches and pains oh my. My
ever increasing age and being out of shapes is showing. I haven't had any trouble falling asleep though which is nice.
Bonus, my stress level has been down, too. Its hard adding new exercise regimen's and honestly sticking to it.
I have been challenged by the 15,000 daily steps. I have lost 2 of my pedometers, talk about being bummed. Thankfully,
1 was found and given back to me. I have really started to rely on checking out my steps. I'm ready to meet with Wendy
again so she can whip me into shape. Im also ready to get outdoors.
Week 1
Well, my first personal training session with my health and fitness specialist, Wendy has begun. I knew I was out of
shape but what I didn't know what how out of shape I was. She is tough and knowledgeable but I loved it. She had me try
the "Versa Climber" for the first time. Not really in shape to be climbing a mountain just yet. Talk about being
exhausted, stuck in the air and praying to make it until the end. I thought I was going to get sick afterwards.
I know in time this program will be easier for me. I started wearing my pedometer again and I am aiming for 15,000
steps a day. I know I can do this even though it could be challenging. I'm taking things daily and one step at a time.
