Downloading Real Player

You will need to use "Real Player."

All computers in the LRC have Real Player installed. To watch streamed videos on your personal computer you will need to dowload and install "Real Player."

This is a free application. Click Here to download.

When are Videos Posted?

• Lecture videos are posted at 12:30pm for the morning sessions and at 4:30pm for the afternoon sessions.

• To view videos, you will need to click on the topic and then sign-in using your Uniqname and Honor Code.

Control the Playback Speed Using "Ennounce 2xAV "

1. Launch a streaming lecture video in the RealPlayer.

2. From the RealPlayer Menu Bar select "Tools", and then "2xAV"

3. You now get a playback slider bar beneath the RealPlayer window. Move the slider to the left to slow down the video or move the slider to the right to speed up the playback rate.

4. This software can be purchased for use on home computers from 2xAV Plug-in Enounce.

Using Replayer "Perfect Player" Feature

In our continual efforts to make watching the streaming lecture videos easy, we have upgraded the computers in the LRC Labs to Real Player 10.5 "Perfect Player." What 'Perfect Player' does is temporally download the video into the computers cache while you are watching it. Once the file has completely downloaded, you can then scan anywhere in the lecture video fast and easily without having to wait for it to be buffered by the computer. This will help prevent the network communications that occur when moving the play head thoughout the video.

How does 'Perfect Player' work:

'Perfect Player' starts downloading the video as soon as you open and start watching a video. You will know that it is downloading by a green progress bar that grows as the video downloads. It might be 2-3 minutes before you see the Green Progress bar. It takes about 10 minutes to fully download a 50 minute presentation. It is best not skip around until the download is complete. Doing so may stop the process and cause the download to restart. Once the process is compete you move freely about the video. Once you close the Real Player window then the video will no longer be in the cache.

Ennouce 2xAv will work as normal.

Network Communication Errors

If you experience Network communication errors you can change the following preferences to improve the performance of computer to greatly reduces and in most cases stop them from happening completely.

The following changes to the Real Player Preferences will slightly reduce the quality of the video, which you may or may not notice. It is because of this loss of quality that we are not making these setting apart of the standard settings for all of the LRC stations.

To change the settings please follow these instructions.

1) Click on the "Tools" drop down menu in the Real Player Window.

2) From the "Tools" menu choose: Prefrences (located near the bottom of the list).

3) From the preferences menu on the left side of the Real Player Menu, choose "Hardware" (arrow #1). Then set "Playback Performance" to "Lowest CPU usage" (arrow #2) and "Video Card Compatability" to "Most Reliable" (arrow #3).

4) Close Real Player and re-open for the setting to take effect.
