| Clerkship Description |
The clerkship emphasizes applied physiology and pharmacology and introduces various emergency procedures and techniques. The goal is enhance knowledge and skills pertaining to (a) focused history and physical exam of acute illness and injury, (b) clinical judgment, and (c) common procedures (i.e. IV placement, arterial line placement, airway management including mask ventilation and endotracheal intubation, lumbar puncture, regional anesthetic techniques, wound care and suturing, splinting). Students will learn appropriate disposition and aftercare of patients seen for both acute and recurrent illnesses and injury. Students will be taught principles of acute resuscitation of the unstable ill or injured patient. |
