Laptop Media Tests

Below is a series of commonly used applications that are used during the M1 and M2 years of Medical School. We have provided links to media that you can use to see how these applications will work on your computer. You can use this information to help you decide if you wish to purchase a new laptop at this time. If your computer does not run these programs and/or performance is poor, you may wish to purchase a new computer. Please note, you will need to separate network performance (e.g., download times) from computer performance (e.g., applications not working). To Test Lecture Videos

  1. All lectures are recorded using Mediasite. You may be required to install the Silverlight Player to view lectures. If needed, Click Here.
  2. At this time, the web browsers that enable multispeed viewing (faster than real-time and up to 2x): Internet Explorer 9, Google Chrome, Apple Safari Note: During the summer of 2012, multispeed viewing will be enabled for Firefox, too.

To Test Virtual Images for Histology and Pathology

iPad Users

  1. To use virtual images on the iPad we suggest you use the Puffin web broswer (current $2.99 from the App Strore).
  2. Access a virtual slide using Aperio WebScope: Click Here
  3. Since iPads only display one web page at a time, you may want to consider alternate methods of viewing the online lab guides and virtual images at the same time, such as printing the lab guides to use in class.

All others (Laptops, Android, etc.)

  1. Webscope links use Adobe Flash Player. If needed, Click Here.
  2. Access a virtual slide using Aperio WebScope: Click Here
