Computing Assistance

 

Help Desk staff in the main LRC Computer Cluster are available to assist users during LRC Computer Cluster hours. Full-time computer consultants are available for advanced questions and support during normal business hours (M-F, 8 am –5 pm).

The LRC Help Desk provides assistance to the Medical Students and to Lab Patrons on a wide range of computing related topics. Areas of help include:

• Wireless Computing
• Streaming Lectures
• Dr. iPod
• Printing
• Scanning
• CD/DVD Burning
• Kerberos (level-1) questions
• Groupwise (level-2) questions
• Software Assistance
• Study Room Checkout

and a variety of other other topics. Just ask!

Study Room Checkout

 

The Medical School has nine study rooms available:

5 on the 3rd floor and 4 on the 6th floor of the Taubman Medical Library. These rooms can be scheduled in advance through Classroom Services or can be reserved on walk-in basis at the LRC Help Desk in 3950 TML.

To checkout a study room you will need a valid MCard or State ID.

Rooms on the 3rd Floor are restricted to Medical Student use only.

Rooms on the 6th Floor can be used by anyone, but Medical Students have priority during walk-in time periods. If the study rooms are all occupied and a medical student is in need of a room, students from other schools may be asked to vacate the room.

To check out a study room during Walk-in times, please go to the LRC Help Desk in 3950 TML with your valid UofM ID card.

There is a time limit of 4 hours on use of the study rooms. After four hours users may be asked to vacate the room for people on the wait list. It is LRC policy that medical students are given priority for use of the study rooms.

Each study is equipped with:

• TV and VCR
• Slide Projector
• Ethernet
• Wireless Internet Access
• Table and Chairs

Clinical Skills Rooms

 

Clinical Skills rooms can be checked out on a walk in basis at the LRC Help Desk by current Medical Students only. All others need to go through Classroom Services.

To checkout a Clinical Skill Room you will need a valid MCard or State ID.

Each room is a fully functioning patient examination rooms complete with exam tables, sinks, counters or desks, and physical exam equipment.

The rooms are available when they are not reserved by Classroom Services and until the Help Desk closes each day.

Rooms will be inspected by the Help Desk staff before and after each use.

Each Clinical Skills room is checked out individually.

Room Rules

1) The door to the main hallway is to remain locked at all times.

2) There is no eating or drinking in these rooms.

3) These rooms are designated as "quite study areas."

4) Any vandalism will be reported

5) No tampering with Cameras

During periods of high use, a time limit on room use will be enforced.

 

 

Items for Checkout

 

The Help Desk has a number of media and medical related items that can be checked out.

Items include:

• Media Card Readers
• USB 3.5" Floppy Drive
• Ethernet Cables
• Firewire Cables
• Stethoscopes

To checkout any item, you will need a valid MCard or State ID.

Your ID card will be retained until items are returned. Most items will need to be returned by the time the Help Desk closes for the day.

Lost and Found

 

Most items found in the Medical School Computer labs will be brought to the LRC Help Desk. Items found will be held till the end of the semester before being disposed of or donated.
