1st Author on Journal of Asthma Paper
Anita Malone
Category: Research Publication

Anita Malone, a third-year U-M medical student is first author of a paper published May 1, 2008 in the Journal of Asthma. She was the principle investigator of the study, which looks at trends in Emergency Departments asthma care within a single large community and how these trends meet the national guidelines for the treatment of asthma. The study found that knowledge of asthma and how to treat it is lower among high risk communities of African Americans and low socioeconomic status adults. In addition, the study found that having experience with Asthma doesn't necessarily increase knowledge of Asthma and that interventions to increase the knowledge of Asthma treatment especially signs of asthma and triggers may help reduce disparities.
