Sport Injury Prevention Center

The goal of the Center is to provide national leadership in preventing unintentional sports injuries, particularly those that cause life-long problems.  The Center is focused on having unintentional injury rates in athletes of all levels and abilities, from children to senior citizens, and from recreational to professional athletes.

Researchers from across the University of Michigan employ state-of-the-art approaches to better identify athletes most at risk, understand the injury mechanisms, and develop better treatment and prevention programs.  Apart from the annual pilot research grant competition for U-M faculty (see links below), the Center is developing tailored outreach programs for athletes, coaches and parents.  It is also seeking close collaborate with regulatory bodies and sports equipment manufacturers to reduce injury risk. Interim Directors are Edward M. Wojtys, M.D. and James A. Ashton-Miller, Ph.D.

The deadline for submitting 2007 SIPC Pilot Grant applications is 5 p.m., Monday, April 9, 2007. The application form requires the co-signature of your department chair for space purposes.
