Research Support & Services: Faculty Research Profiles

What information is shown in a profile?

The profiles in Collexis show a fingerprint of the expertise represented in a faculty member's publications. This fingerprint is organized in a series of MeSH terms and heading areas. For example, faculty who have published on colon cancer, or colonic neoplasms, have terms like “colonic neoplasms” show up under the category of “Disorders,” and “Radioimmunotherapy” under “Procedures.” They also may have things like “Colon” show up under the heading “Anatomy,” or “Radiation Tolerance” under “Physiology.”

The bars under each of these concepts show a measure of how significant and unique that term is across all of Collexis' profiles. A bar that is much longer than those around it means that the faculty member has a strong expressed expertise throughout their career in that concept, methodology, procedure, etc. The reflected expertise in that area then serves as the key to sorting the terms associated with a faculty member, or with sorting the list of faculty members associated with a term.

The plus signs next to each term allow the users of the Research Profiles to see what publications from that faculty member are causing that term to appear in their fingerprint. When looking at this list of publications, users can click another plus sign to show the abstract of that publication and can click on the title to link to that article in PubMed directly.

At the top of the profile page, users can select to view a listing of the chronological publications of a faculty member, or to see the CRISP grants that are associated with that profile. They can view abstracts and link to PubMed from that view as well.
