Research Support & Services

The Office of Research is available to provide assistance to investigators and departments in a number of areas. Listed below are the services that may be requested and contact information:

Research Resources, Funding, and Grant Support

Provide assistance to faculty in research, editing, and coordination of large center grants and program projects (i.e.: construction grants, training grants); assist in identifying funding opportunities; assist in identifying potential collaborators or investigators with specific expertise; meet with individual faculty or attend departmental meetings to discuss research resources at UM.

Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer

Provide assistance and advice to faculty to address their technology transfer needs, including, but not limited to, serving as a first point of contact for new ideas and discoveries, providing guidance on tech transfer policies and procedures, assisting with technology disclosures, identifying and facilitating collaboration needs to advance technology development, disseminating relevant funding opportunities, and meeting with individual faculty or attending departmental meetings to discuss tech transfer processes, intellectual property protection, and general business concepts.

Regulatory Affairs

Provide advice and assistance to faculty regarding the regulations and policies that affect the conduct of research (including human subject research, animal research, research involving hazardous materials, etc.). Available to attend department faculty meetings to provide information, discuss issues, and answer questions. Serve as a liaison to regulatory oversight authorities within and outside UM to represent faculty positions and concerns.
