Career Development
Career development is a four-year process of self-assessment,
career exploration, career decision-making, and implementation. To assist
students in this process, the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS) utilizes excellent on-site
resources, including counselors, career seminars, faculty advisors, student
interest groups, and a helpful support staff.
The primary responsibilities of the Career Development unit are to provide
medical students with the information, resources, and experiences necessary
to make good career decisions and be successful in the residency match. Whether
through weekly Career Seminar Series activities or one-on-one advising from
faculty mentors or class counselors, the ultimate goal is to help students
start down a successful career path in medicine.
