LCME Institutional Self-Study
Dear Colleagues:
Our Medical School's Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) reaccreditation process has begun. While our site visit is scheduled for March 4-7, 2012, our self-study will occur this academic year.
The LCME accreditation process has two objectives: to certify our medical student education program meets prescribed standards and to promote self-evaluation and improvement.
LCME accreditation occurs every eight years. The entire process takes 18-24 months and includes compilation of data about our program, faculty, students, and resources, as well as a self-study analysis, followed by a site visit from LCME. The self-study report will provide an evaluation of the quality of our program and the adequacy of resources that support it. It gives us an opportunity to review our strengths and challenges and provides a framework for innovation and change.
If you're passionate about medical student education and want to be involved in the self-study analysis, please let one of us know. Broad participation by faculty, administrators, and students will ensure we learn all we can to drive internal improvement efforts and help prepare us for our site visit.
The accreditation process will be led by Joseph C. Kolars, M.D., Senior Associate Dean of Education and Global Initiatives, along with Karen Lang, LCME Self-Study and Site Visit Administrator, and Sara Weir, LCME Self-Study and Survey Visit Coordinator. They'll be collecting information from many of you as we gather data about our program. They'll ensure the accuracy of our final data set, coordinate the activities of the self-study task force and its subcommittees, help prepare the final self-study report, and communicate with LCME throughout the process. We know you'll do your best to support this team and the task force and subcommittees with this effort if called upon.
We look forward to a robust analysis of our medical student education program and improvement opportunities.
