Students from the 2009 Cuban Medical
ExperienceService and Learning Trip.
Cuba (2009 Post-Trip Report)
The Cuban Medical Experience trip provides educational and humanitarian experience for first year medical students. The goal of the trip is twofold: learn firsthand about the Cuban health care system by visiting local physicians and institutions at various levels of the system and also provide humanitarian aid in the form of medicines and medical supplies to the institutions visited. The trip exposes students to an alternative health care system that often works at the local level and which stresses preventative care and public health measures. Through the trip, students gain an appreciation of the ways in which another culture views health and medicine and how those philosophies translate into health policies.
