OUR STUDENTS: REACHING OUT
Global REACH would like to offer this section of its web page to medical students who create opportunities for themselves to reach out to people, students, families, and entire nations of people. The students in this section are our "Leaders and Best". They have set their own standards, standardized their own boundaries, and achieved their own goals. For this, Global REACH salutes you!

M2, Josh Winder in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Josh Winder, a second year medical student here at UM, traveled to Brazil in June 2009, on his own service and learning trip. During his one week stay in Sao Paulo, Josh assisted in the operating room, the ambulatory department, and the urgent care department of the Hospital das Clinicas. While at the hospital, Josh learned how to take a history, present a patient to the attending physician, perform pelvic and breast exams, perform a pap smear, scrub in for surgery, and how to properly suture an incision.
"I loved the time I was able to spend in the Hospital das Clinicas. I believe my experiences there will be extremely valuable to me, now, as a student, and in my future practice as a physician." -Josh Winder
