Global REACH Support Global REACH One of Global REACHs main priorities is to expand the opportunities for medical students and residents to study internationally. We believe that international and cross-cultural experiences not only teach students how medicine is practiced around the world, but also provide students with the opportunity to live as a minority in a majority culture. In addition, it is also possible that these physicians-in-training could provide valuable assistance to physicians and other medical staff working under resource constraints in developing countries. Global REACH hopes to expand the opportunities for University of Michigan medical students to take at least one month out of their training to provide hands-on care or conduct research outside the United States. As such, we are interested in two things:
If you are interested in serving as
a contact person for medical students setting up international rotations
either directly (by mentoring students yourself during 1-month
rotations at your institution) or indirectly (by referring us to someone
else who might) please email
us with your name, institution, position, address, e-mail address,
fax number, and telephone number. We will include your name and e-mail
address in a database used by students to search for contacts. In terms of financial support, we
estimate that $2,500 will cover the costs associated with one medical
students international rotation, including travel costs, housing,
living expenses, and administrative overhead. A gift of $50,000 will permanently
endow one international rotation per year, providing approximately $2,500
the first year and increasing amounts as the fund grows over time. In addition, Global REACH welcomes contributions at any level to facilitate international research, education and collaboration efforts. If you would like to talk with a development
officer about the ways in which such a gift can be made, please visit
their website. Thank you for your interest in Global
REACH, and please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.
