Special Programs

The University of Michigan Medical School has a number of different programs available to assist students with expenses over and above the standard guideline budget. Funding is available through the Special Needs Program to help with uninsured medical and dental expenses, domestic and international clinical rotations to name a few. Read the information regarding this program carefully as there are guidelines and deadlines that will be adhered to.

Fourth year medical students may apply to the Galens Loan for Interviewing for help with interviewing costs. Applications are made available to all fourth year students at the beginning of their academic year, with funds being disbursed in the fall, prior to the start of the interviewing season. Financial need is not a criteria for this program.

Students with children that need help with childcare costs may apply to the Child Care Subsidy Program. This program, funded through student fees, is available to students University wide.

The Short Term University Loan Program is designed to help students enrolled in the current term with unforeseen educationally related expenses. These loans must be repaid within 90 days and require a $10 loan fee for each approved loan.
