Basic Science Research Award

The Medical School Dean’s Office is soliciting nominations for the Basic Science Research Award. This award is to recognize a scientist or group of scientists identified as having made outstanding contributions to the Medical School in basic biomedical science research. This award carries a $5,000 discretionary academic support prize, which will be given to the faculty member or group.

There is a two-stage selection process.  Nominations are reviewed by the Biomedical Research Council.  This committee submits a list of potential awardees to the Dean of the Medical School.  The Dean makes the final selection.

Nominees must be faculty in the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, or Assistant or Associate Research Scientist of the University of Michigan Medical School.

Complete nominations must include the following:

  1. A nomination letter from the department chair, division head or unit/center director.
  2. Research description: a three-page (maximum) summation of the nominee’s research
  3. Two or more letters of support from University of Michigan faculty.
  4. The nominee’s current curriculum vitae.
  5. One manuscript or abstract reflecting the substance of research achievement.
