The Medical School Emeritus Program offers opportunities for active medical school emeritus faculty to continue to participate in Medical School missions. Emeritus faculty can participate in any or all of the opportunities organized by the emeritus program. The Medical School and Health System can benefit from the experience, ability, and wisdom of the emeritus faculty. In turn, emeritus faculty have the opportunity to share their expertise in teaching and mentoring in the medical school, hospital, and research environment.
The Medical School Emeritus Faculty Program was instituted by Senior Associate Dean Joseph Kolars and is supported by an Emeritus Faculty Steering committee. The program is administratively housed in the Office of Faculty and Faculty Development led by Senior Associate Dean Margaret Gyetko. Sonya Jacobs, Director of Faculty Development provides primary support to the program.
The program provides information on emeritus status to departmental chairs for faculty members considering retirement. The program also sponsors informational and social meetings for faculty nearing and following retirement.
There are many specific opportunities for participation including medical student, resident, graduate student, and faculty education and mentoring, emeritus research seminars, MCAS/Alumni activities and development, and participation on the Emeritus Steering Committee and occasional meetings with the Dean.
Emeritus faculty are encouraged to enroll to participate in any or all of these activities. To sign-up for the program, click here. You will be asked a few questions about your interests and someone will contact you to try and match you with your best options for participation.
