GreenIT, Phase 3 began Tuesday, Sept. 29
Phase 3 of the U-M Health System¿s GreenIT program began on September 29, 2009. Phase 3 introduces Wake-on-LAN technology to MCIT managed computers, known as CoreImage computers, that provide for remote computer start up. This technology will allow UMHS to shut down the computers at the end of business and turn them back on again before the beginning of business the next day. Nightly maintenance and software distribution activities on the CoreImage computers will not be affected, since this technology permits MCIT to remotely turn them on to perform these tasks and then turn them back off again.

On average, the computers will be turned on 30 minutes before business begins and will shut down 30-60 minutes after the end of business. Phase 3 will also begin performing the nightly shutdown and remote start up on Ambulatory Care exam room computers. It is estimated that Phase 3 will save an additional $280,000 in electrical expenses each year.

For more information, including areas that operate 7x24 and how beginning and end of the business day are determined, check the Web site. If you have questions, please contact greenIT@med.umich.edu.

Check the flu shot calendar for a time and place that works best for you
FluYou are encouraged to obtain a seasonal flu shot, which is being provided all over UMHS to make obtaining a shot as easy and convenient as possible for UMHS employees, medical/nursing students and volunteers. To help you identify the closest location for you, please check out the Flu Shot Clinic calendar that lists when and where these shots will be given. Remember the vaccination is free to UMHS employees, medical/nursing students and volunteers. Make sure to have your employee ID and blue registration card ready so that your vaccination can proceed. The flu shot is given in the muscle of the upper arm, so please remember to wear appropriate clothing. The calendar can be found on the Web site.

Immediate CVC parking change
Based on feedback we have received, we need to do more to make it easier for patients and visitors to park at the U-M Cardiovascular Center. Accordingly, the U-M Hospitals and Health Centers will closely monitor the parking area to make sure that faculty and staff do not park in areas designated for patients and visitors.

Also, in the near future, UMHHC will establish an attendant booth at the entry to the CVC parking structure, similar to the one currently in place at the Cancer Center parking facility. While we are waiting for the booth to be created, the entrance to the CVC parking deck will be monitored by a parking attendant and/or UMHHC Security staff to assist all patients and visitors, and to help re-direct faculty and staff to alternative parking locations if they are not part of a currently approved staff parking program that permits a limited access to the CVC deck.

Valet service at the CVC entrance will continue to be provided for patient and visitor use.

If you have questions about this policy, please contact Tom Peterson, associate director of Operations and Support Services, UMHHC, by phone at 734-763-9908 or e-mail tpeters@umich.edu.
