Pfizer purchase completed; new name for site announced On Tuesday, June 16, the university expanded its North Campus by completing the purchase of 174 acres of land and 30 buildings that were formerly owned by Pfizer Inc. The new buildings will be known collectively as the North Campus Research Complex, or NCRC. The site will form the basis for growth in the U-M research community and partnerships with the private sector. Kresge Complex to be demolished On Thursday, June 18, the U-M Regents approved a project to demolish the seven buildings that comprise the Kresge Complex at the corner of Ann Street and Zina Pitcher Place. They have become outdated and are at the end of their useful life. The facilities now stand vacant after renovation projects at various Medical School facilities allowed their occupants to be relocated. After demolition, the site will be restored, including landscaping, sidewalks and lighting. The Medical School will fund the $9.7 million project that is scheduled to be completed in the winter of 2011.
June 19: Attend Dean Woolliscroft's office hours program Since beginning the "office hours" program, Dean Woolliscroft has met informally with many faculty, staff and students who have provided him with valuable comments and suggestions on how to enhance our efforts and make a great school even better. Faculty, staff and students are invited to stop by with their creative ideas and innovative solutions from 11 a.m. - noon Friday, June 19, in University Hospital room 1H202. There will be no office hours in July.
Metabolomics and Obesity Center 2009 Pilot and Feasibility Grant Program The Michigan Metabolomics and Obesity Center announces its 2009 call for proposals to promote interdisciplinary, cross-organizational collaborative research to advance cutting-edge research at the University of Michigan on nutrition, obesity, and related diseases .
Proposals can receive one year of support with funding up to $50,000; application deadline is 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, with anticipated funding to begin Oct. 1. For the application and instructions, visit the MMOC Web site.

Proposals may be in basic biomedical research or clinical, behavioral, epidemiological, health services, or translational research. They should address key questions in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention or control of diabetes, its complications, or related endocrine or metabolic disorders. Proposals are for one year of support with requested funding up to $50,000.

The Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center is accepting applications for a pilot and feasibility study to promote interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers. June 25: International symposium on the biochemistry and toxicology of the inner ear
The international symposium on the biochemistry and toxicology of the inner ear will take place from 8 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Thursday, June 25, in the Biomedical Science Research Building auditorium. An international panel of speakers will present the latest basic and translational research on hearing loss and its prevention. July 27: EndNote X2 Basics for support staff In this class on the basics of EndNote, we'll focus on the skills needed most for support staff managing EndNote libraries, including entering references manually, finding and importing known references from online databases such as PubMed, and inserting citations and formatting and reformatting bibliographies in Word documents.
