UMMS Office of Research launches Faculty Research Profiles
The Medical School Office of Research recently launched Faculty Research Profiles, a research expertise identification tool, which was developed in partnership with Medical School Information Systems and Collexis, a company that specializes in data and information retrieval. This tool makes it easier for faculty, staff and students to identify who is working in what scientific areas at the Medical School. This will help you find collaborators, mentors, advisers and key research experts.

Faculty Research Profiles provides a comprehensive compilation of our medical research expertise, and it automatically builds up-to-date research profiles for UMMS faculty based on their PubMed publications. This tool lets you browse by department or search by key concept or last name, thus allowing you to identify "who is doing what" in our organization. The Office of Research is working closely with the Health Science Libraries and MSIS to make Faculty Research Profiles broadly available and a helpful resource. Please direct questions to collexis-help@umich.edu.

Policy Update - Revised U-M sick time policy aids new parents
Short-term sick time pay now is available for faculty and staff members who need time off from work because of their new parental role, whether they are caring for their or their partner’s newborn child, their newly adopted child, or a foster child newly placed in their home. The policy does not apply to staff on a paid time off - PTO - program or those covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement.

The University provides eligible faculty and staff 15 days of short-term sick time pay each year. The days do not accrue but are renewed on the first of the month of the anniversary of employment and are offered to assist employees who are unable to work because of personal illness or injury, pregnancy, childbirth, or absence for preventive medical and dental care, or to provide care for an incapacitated, ill or injured family member. The revised policy now extends access to sick time for partners of birth mothers as well as for adoptive parents and foster parents. Sick time may be used for this purpose only during the year following the child’s birth or the arrival of the adopted or foster child in the home. The policy applies to faculty and staff who are eligible for paid short-term sick time or sick leave. The complete sick leave plan for faculty is defined in SPG 201.11-1 and the sick time policy for staff members is available in SPG 201.11-0.
