Feb. 25: Attend Dean Woolliscroft's office hours program
Since beginning the "office hours" program, Dean Woolliscroft has met informally with many faculty, staff and students who have provided him with valuable comments and suggestions on how to enhance our efforts and make a great school even better. Below are the days, times and locations for office hours in February and March. Faculty, staff and students are invited to stop by with their creative ideas and innovative solutions:

  • 4 - 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, in the PIBS/GAPS Conference Room, 2955 Taubman Medical Library
  • 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 27, in the KMS conference room 6, 700 KMS Place, 3621 S. State Street

Feb. 26: U-M Comprehensive Cancer Cancer 'Annual State of the Cancer Center Address'
U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center "Annual State of the Cancer Center Address," will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 26, in M3330 Med. Sci. I, presented by Max S. Wicha, M.D., distinguished professor of Oncology and director of the Cancer Center.

Feb. 27: Book discussion of "Animals in Translation" by Temple Grandin

The Health Sciences Libraries invite all interested individuals to a discussion of the book "Animals in Translation" by Temple Grandin. The group will meet at noon Friday, Feb. 27, in the Taubman Medical Library Reference Office. This is a book in which the author, who is autistic, uses the mysteries of autism to decode animal behavior. Everyone is welcome to attend. Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research expands funding and application period for the CTSA K scholars program
Deadline: Monday, March 16
Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research is pleased to announce an extension in the application period and a revision to the funding support mechanism for the CTSA K Scholars-Mentored Clinical Scientists Development Program. The revision provides for full funding of two awarded scholars and partial-funding of four additional scholars. The top two applicants will be awarded full financial and training support for salary, research expenses and tuition fees. Four additional scholars will receive a total of $55,000 of support per year for research expenses and tuition/workshop fees. Partially funded scholars will be responsible for obtaining salary support from their clinical departments. The CTSA K Program is a two-year program offered to candidates from all healthcare-related schools and clinical departments who seek training as a clinical/translational research scientist. All applicants must obtain 75 percent protected time (50 percent for surgical sub-specialties) from their clinical departments.

Feb. 21: Costco to host shopping night for U-M staff
Costco will host a shopping night at the Brighton store for U-M staff from 7 - 9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21. All U-M staff may shop that evening without a membership card when they present their employee ID card at the door. Shoppers who sign up for a new membership will receive a free case of bottled water and a Costco gift card. If you're already a member and bring a friend who signs up, you can receive a coupon for a free pizza. Shoppers will be entered in free gift raffles. Costco accepts AmEx, Cash, and debit cards. The store is located at 6700 Whitmore Lake Road, Brighton. For more information, call Carol or Mark at 810-220-8950.
