Nov. 18: Theodore Lawrence to give next Dean's Lecture Theodore S. Lawrence, M.D., Ph.D., Isadore Lampe Professor of Radiation Oncology and professor and chair, Department of Radiation Oncology, will give the next Dean's Lecture at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov, 18, in the Dow Auditorium, Towsley Center. The topic of his talk is "Individualizing Radiation Therapy." All members of the University community are welcome to attend. A reception will follow in the Towsley Lobby. Since beginning the "office hours" program, Dean Woolliscroft has met informally with many faculty, staff and students who have provided him with valuable comments and suggestions on how to enhance our efforts and make a great school even better. Center for Genetics in Health and Medicine Postdoctoral Fellowship Competition Application Deadline: Monday Jan. 12, 2009
The Center for Genetics in Health and Medicine announces its fourth annual postdoctoral fellowship competition. To enhance and enrich genetics research at the U-M by increasing basic science, clinical and translational research opportunities, the center offers two postdoctoral fellowship awards annually. Each fellowship will provide one year of funding for individuals who wish to undertake a research project in the field of genetics in health and medicine. We encourage projects that are interdisciplinary, with co-mentorship by faculty in clinical and basic sciences in the Medical School or co-mentorship across different schools. Opportunities to learn about Second Life Second Life - Basic Building Workshop, 9 - 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, Learning Resource Center This workshop will familiarize participants with the basic functionality of the object building system within the Second Life virtual world. Topics covered will include an exploration of the basic building blocks and how they can be manipulated into more complex shapes, and linking individual objects to create more complex compound objects. Participants should be familiar with Second Life basic skills and have an existing avatar before registering for this workshop. For more information or to register, visit the Web site.

Flu shot recipient/iPod Nano winner No. 1 announced
Dennis Devine from Maintenance is the proud recipient of an 8 GB iPod Nano. Those who received a flu shot through one of the Employee Health Services' flu shot clinics were entered in one of three drawings to win an iPod Nano.
