2008 Research Partnership Program
Deadline: Monday, March 10
The Spring/Summer Research Grants Program will award a maximum of 40 grants to faculty members to enable them to hire doctoral students to assist with their research and scholarly projects, while providing both financial support and tasks of intellectual benefit to participating doctoral students. In addition, there will be two Sokol Grants for Faculty and Graduate Student Research Projects in the Sciences awarded as a part of this program. The same application is used for consideration for the Sokol Grants. Guidelines and application forms are available at the Rackham Web site.

The Distinguished Faculty and Graduate Student Seminars Program will provide a maximum of 5 awards to groups of faculty, students or graduate programs proposing innovative seminars and colloquia to foster collaboration and stimulate new research. Guidelines and application forms are available at the OVPR Web site.

Please review the attached materials carefully to note the differing purposes of the two types of awards in order to guide your faculty and students to apply to the most appropriate program for their planned activity.

March 7 and 8: 90th Annual Galens Smoker: "Billy Medicine"
The Galens Smoker is a theatrical production written and produced entirely by medical students. The annual show pokes fun at the medical community at-large through singing, dancing, music and acting. This year's show, "Billy Medicine" follows a group of U-M doctors who are discovered to never have passed medical school, and thus must go back and complete all four years in a matter of weeks or risk losing their jobs. Hilarity and hijinx ensure as these docs stumble their way through med school! Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 in the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre in the Michigan League.

Tickets can be purchased from Smoker Cast members in the Medical School Lobby and in the University Hospital Cafeteria from 11a.m. - 2 p.m. Feb. 25 - 29 and March 3 - 7. Tickets will be $10 when purchased in person, $11 online, or $12 at the door the evening of the performance.

Medical School Buildings after hour entrance door access - card key use only
The Medical School will be converting to card key access only at all building entry doors by the beginning of March. After normal operating hours all Medical School building entry doors will be locked and access will be by card key only. Hard keys will no longer work after March 3.

Please make sure that you have an up to date U-M Medical School identification card so that, if necessary, you can enter Medical School buildings after hours. If you have any questions regarding whether your identification card is up-to-date, e-mail Bonnie Brown at bgbrown@umich.edu or call the Medical School Office of Facilities Management and Planning at 734-647-2788.
