Dec. 8: Attend Dean Woolliscroft's office hours program
Since beginning the "office hours" program, Dean Woolliscroft has met informally with many faculty, staff and students who have provided him with valuable comments and suggestions on how to enhance our efforts and make a great school even better. The final session for 2008 takes place from 4 - 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in 1H202 University Hospital. Faculty, staff and students are invited to stop by with their creative ideas and innovative solutions.

Dec. 10: Ceremony for Saroja Adusumilli Collegiate Professorship in Radiology
James O. Woolliscroft, M.D., dean of the Medical School, cordially invites you to Wednesday, Dec. 10, inauguration of the Saroja Adusumilli Collegiate Professorship in Radiology and the installation of Richard H. Cohan, M.D., as the first Adusumilli Professor. The Ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. in the Biomedical Science Research Building Auditorium. Mentored Research Training Program (KL2) request for applications
Application Deadline: Jan. 12

The Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research is seeking applicants for its KL2 Mentored Clinical Scholars Program. The Program supports fellows and junior clinical faculty while developing their careers in clinical research. Appointed scholars are expected to obtain 75 percent (50 percent for surgical subspecialties) protected funding from their clinical departments in order to participate. Suitable candidates are junior clinical faculty, mid-career faculty interested in changing their career focus from basic to clinical research, and fellows with a strong academic background who wish to pursue an academic career based on clinical/translational research. Candidates must be nominated and obtain funding commitment by their department chair and display clear potential for academic success. Center for Genetics in Health and Medicine Postdoctoral Fellowship Competition
Application Deadline: Monday, Jan. 12
The Center for Genetics in Health and Medicine announces its fourth annual postdoctoral fellowship competition. To enhance and enrich genetics research at the U-M by increasing basic science, clinical and translational research opportunities, the Center for Genetics in Health and Medicine offers two postdoctoral fellowship awards annually. Each fellowship will provide one year of funding for individuals who wish to undertake a research project in the field of genetics in health and medicine. We encourage projects that are interdisciplinary, with co-mentorship by faculty in clinical and basic sciences in the Medical School or co-mentorship across different schools. Buy a 2009 Student Alliance for Global REACH calendar and help support medical student mission trips!
Each year U-M medical students donate their time during spring break and summer to organize projects in developing countries. They work in free clinics, educate communities on hygiene and health care and learn about the host countries health system. Your calendar purchase of $19.95 will help finance these trips. Calendars will be for sale from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the University Hospital Cafeteria on the following dates:

The 2009 Student Alliance for Global REACH calendar contains photos taken by students during their 2008 trips. The photos reflect their projects and commitment to global health.

Jan. 17: Michigan Gastrointestinal Peptide Research Center Retreat
The Michigan Gastrointestinal Peptide Research Center cordially invites you to attend their annual Winter retreat from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, in Palmer Commons. The distinguished guest speaker will be Bishr Omary, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology, who will present "The keratin cytoskeleton participates and precipitates in liver disease."

The November/December 2008 issue of Biomedical News is now online. Changes in University Hospital retail food services - University Hospital Cafeteria and Einstein Bros. Bagels
Effective Monday, Dec. 8, staff will have more food choices, more often, when the University Hospital Cafeteria and Einstein Bros. Bagels change hours of operation. The University Hospital Cafeteria will expand its hours to 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will offer a greater variety of foods at a wider range of price points. For staff convenience, the breakfast service will now start an hour earlier, at 6 a.m., and foods such as sushi, fresh 'n healthy salads, grab and go sandwiches and 99-cent menu items will be available from 9 p.m. - 7 a.m.

Einstein Bros. Bagels, situated within the University Hospital Cafeteria, is changing its hours of operation from 6 a.m. - 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 6 a.m. - 3 p.m. on weekends. All other retail food venue hours remain unchanged.

These changes are taking place based on customer feedback and will broaden food quality and choices for the entire Health System staff, students and trainees, especially those who work evening and midnight shifts.
