Aug. 6: Attend Dean Woolliscroft's office hours program Since beginning the "office hours" program, Dean Woolliscroft has met informally with many faculty, staff and students who have provided him with valuable comments and suggestions on how to enhance our efforts and make a great school even better. Below are the days, times and locations for office hours in the coming month. Faculty, staff and students are invited to stop by with their creative ideas and innovative solutions:
8 - 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 , in room 4CO7 North Ingalls Building
4 - 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, in room 2G207 University Hospital
Aug. 7: Florence E. Bingham Research Professorship in Nephrology James O. Woolliscroft, M.D., dean of the Medical School, cordially invites you to the inauguration of the Florence E. Bingham Research Professorship in Nephrology and the installation of Akinlolu O. Ojo, M.D., Ph.D., as the first Bingham Professor at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, in the Ford Amphitheater. East Hospital Drive Closure Aug. 4 - 10 Impacted Area
The section of E. Hospital Dr. that runs from E. Medical Center Dr. along the east side of the Simpson/Mott Parking Structure to the Birthing Center will be closed Aug. 4-10 for construction of water tie-ins for the new Women's/Children's hospital facility.
To facilitate uninterrupted emergency access to the CVC and Birthing Center, Simpson Dr. and Hospital Dr. will be temporarily converted to two-way traffic during this time.
What this means for faculty and staff
If you currently get dropped off on this section of E. Hospital Drive to use the Mott employee entrance, you will need to use an alternative drop off point. The recommended alternative is the stop sign at the corner of E. Medical Center Dr. and E. Hospital Dr. There is NO PARKING on E. Medical Center Dr. Please make arrangements for a temporary pick-up location that does not impede traffic. Drop off and pick up vehicles should not come up the rerouted way and then try to turn around in the road, as this could potentially block an ambulance en route.
All southbound/outbound traffic on Simpson Dr. will be right hand only onto E. Medical Center Dr. during this time.
If you currently catch the evening bus on Hospital Drive , you will need to catch it at the main E. Medical Center Dr. bus stop at the south side of the Simpson Parking Structure during this time.
If you are an M85 (CVC) Gold parker, you will have entrance only access to the deck via the Patient/Visitor entrance on the plaza (Ann/Observatory) level. You will be able to exit only via the Simpson Circle Dr. lane at the bottom of the deck.
If you are part of a unit that has Patient Parking in the M13 lot, you will need to let your patients know they need to access this lot via the detoured route on Simpson Dr.

Angel vs. Devil! Check it out Though we've all improved hand hygiene practices recently, there is still more to be done to get us where we need to be: 100 percent compliance, 100 percent of the time. To help in this endeavor, we've created a series of videos about hand hygiene practices. The first video is now available www.med.umich.edu/i/ice/video/angeldevil.asx
.
The videos are lighthearted and fun, but the message couldn't be more serious and important. Please think about how you can improve hand hygiene practices, reduce infections and create a safer patient care environment. Watch for an announcement about a second video clip in a few weeks!
