Since beginning the "office hours" program, Dean Woolliscroft has met informally with many faculty, staff and students who have provided him with valuable comments and suggestions on how to enhance our efforts and make a great school even better. April 15: Harry Mobley, Ph.D., to give next Dean's Lecture
Harry L.T. Mobley, Ph.D., Frederick G. Novy, M.D., collegiate professor in microbiology and immunology, professor and chair, microbiology and immunology, will give the next Dean's Lecture at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the Dow Auditorium, Towsley Center. The topic of his talk is "Rational Vaccine Development Against Mucosal Infections: Common Tools to Combat Infectious Disease." All members of the University community are welcome to attend. A reception will follow in the Towsley Lobby.

Ashis Brahma, M.D.: On the Front Lines in Darfur
An interactive presentation about public health in the refugee camps
of Chad and Darfur featuring Ashis Brahma, M.D. will be from noon - 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the West Lecture Hall, Med. Sci. II. Brahma, is a Dutch-Indian physician working in the Darfur region,
was the sole medical care professional at the Oure Cassoni camp in
Chad, caring for 27,000 Darfur refugees forced from their homes in
Sudan. He has worked across Asia and Africa for the past decade -- in
developing countries like India, Nepal, Burundi, Sudan, Uganda, and
Ethiopia -- providing education and service in refugee camps. In the
past, he has lent his expertise to Medicins San Frontieres (Doctors
Without Borders) and the International Rescue Committee; and has been
interviewed on '60 Minutes' (CBS-TV), and on 'The World' (PBS/BBC
radio).
University Hospital roofing project resumes April 7
Spring has arrived and work will recommence on the project to replace or repair 190,000 square feet of roof on University Hospital. Visit the Web site for updates on the location of cranes and staging areas, and the schedule of areas to be impacted.
April 22: CTSA Health Professional Research Training Program begins
This program is designed for health professionals to learn and engage in research. It is sponsored by Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research and PM&R, Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery departments. Phase 1 of the program includes three complementary sessions: 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. April 22, May 1 and May 8. Phase 2 of the program costs $100 and includes evening sessions in which health professionals build a grant application to submit for funding under a new CTSA mechanism. Save the Date! Medical Education Day is June 10 Medical Education Day highlights medical education activities at U-M, providing faculty, residents and students with an opportunity to interact and collaborate. The plenary speaker is William C. McGaghie, Ph.D., professor and associate director for the Office of Medical Education and Faculty Development for the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. The topic of the plenary session is "Interdisciplinary Health Science Education." The event will take place from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. in Dow Auditorium. Deadline to submit abstracts is May 6.

Great Grantsmanship: Finding funding sources
University members have online access to resources that list and describe thousands of current funding opportunities from the federal government, foundations, professional societies and other sources. We will discuss and demonstrate the various Web-based funding databases currently available, how to develop search strategies, establishing e-mail alerts for new grants, and how to navigate university policies and timelines for grant-getting. AATA parking alert
Beginning on Monday, April 7 Arborland Mall security personnel will be monitoring the Arborland parking lot for vehicles of AATA bus riders not parked in the designated area. Bus riders' vehicles will be towed at the owener's expense if parked outside the designated area.
