Attend Walking Dinner for research in education Sept. 9 The Medical School, U-M's School of Education and the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching will co-host a "Walking Dinner," from 5:30-8:30 p.m., Sept. 9 in the Great Lakes Room of Palmer Commons.
Faculty will share their research in education and each unit's programs that address educational interests and needs. Some examples of Medical School posters include ENCORE, the Clinical Stimulation Center, Surgery Boot Camp and Open Educational Resources. Ideas will be shared in a poster format but not in the traditional research-based way. About 20 posters are presented from each group.
During two separate sessions in which 30 posters are attended by faculty, the remainder of the audience will be able to stroll around during dinner to initiate questions and dialogue with the investigators. Following a short plenary session, the remaining posters are open for discussion.
If you plan to attend, or if you would like to present a poster, e-mail Barb Blackstone at blkstone@umich.edu. Resources are available to assist with printing posters.
Does your Medical School unit need an online suggestion box? To help the flow of communication within U-M Medical School departments and units, the Medical School Information Services recently created an electronic suggestion box tool that allows faculty and staff to offer their ideas and make suggestions. Currently, this tool is being used by the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research (MICHR) and MSIS, but it is available to all Medical School units.
The Suggestion Box tool can be found on the MSIS Web site on the left side of the home page. People who submit suggestions and want to receive a response to their comments need to provide their name and email address. There is an option of remaining anonymous for those who do not need a response. If interested in launching a Suggestion Box, contact MSIS and provide an e-mail address where suggestions should be sent. For more information, e-mail Brett Miller.
Start of school year impacting traffic, parking Increased traffic during the official U-M residence hall move-in and several construction projects may create traffic delays and impact bus service next week.
Street adjustments to be made Wednesday, Aug. 27 through Friday, Aug. 29, include:
Re-routing traffic on Ann Street (Zina Pitcher Place to
Observatory Street) to one-way eastbound and on Observatory Street (Ann
Street to Geddes Avenue) to one-way southbound.
Central campus road impacts include Thompson Street converted to one-way between Richard
Kennedy Dr. and Packard (southbound only) and E. Madison (Thompson to S.
State streets) is limited to eastbound only.
A change from previous years' move-in traffic and not indicated on the maps, State Street
(South University to Hill Street) will remain as two-way traffic.
Additional adjustments can be viewed at the University Housing's Web site .
Parking structures that will be controlled during student move-in include Lot M28 (Washington Heights), Lot W5 (Maynard),
Lot W16 (Thompson), Lot W18 (metered lot on Thompson), and parallel parking spaces on Richard Kennedy Drive. In addition, the Thompson St. and Palmer Dr. parking structures will be used for overflow move-In parking. The structure gates will be opened at 10 a.m. for the remainder of the day. At the Thompson Parking structure, all traffic will be directed to exit via the Division Street exit.
Managers with the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority and U-M Parking and Transportation Services advise that the added activity may delay bus service. UM bus route adjustments are viewable on their Web site. Additional AATA adjustments can be viewed at a special Web site.
