Inspiring Those Who Will Follow in Your Footsteps

The Hope Outreach elective gives you the chance to work with highly motivated high school or college students who are interested in pursuing health professions and are also socially, economically or educationally disadvantaged. Every summer, M4 students who choose this elective work with students enrolled in either the Summer Science Academy, MedSOAR or the Profile for Success program, all of which are offered through the Diversity & Career Development Office (DCDO). You will get to spend time with these students, tutoring them, giving them mock interviews and assisting them with their AMCAS applications. You will also get to assist with program implementation, such as creating newsletters or facilitating a session on health disparities. It is a rewarding and valuable experience to inspire the next generation and be their beacon of hope. For more information about the Hope Outreach elective and other volunteer efforts available to Michigan medical students, visit the DCDO web site.
