Jayne A. Thorson, Ph.D.

Jayne Thorson, PhD, is the Assistant Dean for Faculty Services and Research Faculty at the University of Michigan Medical School. Her previous positions at the University of Michigan include a secondary appointment in the Office of the President as the Coordinator for the Michigan Agenda for Women, the faculty governance organization's liaison to the central administration, a Dean's Executive Assistant, and the Assistant Director of the Honors Program. Additionally, she has taught several graduate and undergraduate courses related to reproductive biology within the School of Public Health, the Honors Program, and the Residential College. She has made numerous service contributions to the University in issues related to women, sexual orientation, and disability.
Dr. Thorson received a University of Michigan Staff Recognition Award for Outstanding Leadership and the 2001 Sarah Goddard Power Award for contributions to the university environment for women. She received the 1998 Women in Medicine Leadership Development Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges, and was the inaugural recipient of the Leadership For A New Century Award from the National Association for Women in Education. Dr. Thorson received a BA degree from Drake University with majors in biology and chemistry and a PhD from the University of Michigan, Department of Physiology.
